# Privacy Ratings command-line tool

Search every rating from the terminal, with the same grades, picks, criteria and evidence as the website.

## Install

- macOS and Linux: `curl -fsSL https://privacyratings.com/install.sh | sh`
- Windows (PowerShell): `irm https://privacyratings.com/install.ps1 | iex`
- npm (Node.js 20 or newer): `npm install -g privacyratings`

## Use

```sh
privacyratings                          # interactive search
privacyratings "gmail alternatives"     # start with a query
privacyratings search vpn --picks       # print matching ratings
privacyratings show "Proton Mail"       # every criterion, with notes and evidence
privacyratings picks password-managers  # our picks in one category
privacyratings search email --json      # JSON for scripts
```

The tool updates itself once a day in the background. Set `PRIVACYRATINGS_NO_UPDATE=1` to turn that off. It sends no analytics or telemetry.
